About Us

MAP Movement (Myofascial Activated Posture), is a rehabilitation tool to help you move more freely.

The MAP Movement Workshop and Trainer courses are movement courses created to address the misconceptions around movement and re-training of posture. The known model of movement and training is based on the muscle isolation theory whereby muscle and movement become static and rigid. With the knowledge we have now we realise that movement happens in fascial planes and therefore we need to re-educate movement patterns and redefine the core.

MAP Movement fills the gap between movement as we know it and movement as we want it to be. Let’s move out of defence into power and enable ourselves to move the way nature intended. So, the emphasis is on movement and not on manual therapy techniques. We focus on creating movement in the different fascial lines, breathing techniques to create movement and how it all interconnects.

"The emphasis is on movement and not on manual therapy techniques."

Meet our team

Christien Mann
Co-Founder
Christien is a qualified physiotherapist and began her movement journey as a Reebok group trainer and BASI mat work instructor in 2000. As co- founder of MAP movement she incorporates her years of experience with fascia knowledge and research. Her main focus is to motivate people to move from the fear of pain to freedom of movement, with the aim to change chronic pain patterns such as lower back and neck pain through movement.

Her passion is to educate people about movement and their own bodies: to help them fully understand that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. Working with the body she realised the need to look at the body as a unit instead of separate components. Deriving information from various sources she formulated a technique together with Lené van Heerden to address this need. This technique is now called the MAP Movement.
Lené van Heerden
Co-Founder
She is a qualified physiotherapist and the owner of a physiotherapy practise. She was born in South Africa but now resides in the Netherlands where she opened the first MAP Movement studio in Europe. Her fields of interest include sport rehabilitation, movement education and breath re-training. Working with athletes and enhancing their performance is a true passion of hers, and therefore finding a solution to chronic recurrent injuries in athletes takes high priority. This motivated her to do research abroad and delve deeper into the world of fascia.

Fascia movement techniques have proven to make a significant difference in the rehabilitation of the athletes treated in practice. Together with Christien Mann she is now teaching MAP Movement classes and MAP Movement courses to people hungry for movement.
